I’m writing a book and this is my favorite part!  Hope you like it!

The Western Sky
Where am I?  Pike thought.  The last thing he could remember was a girl.  She had called someone for help.  He tried to sit up but fell back due to the excruciating pain in his left shoulder and side.  He let out a short grunt.  Then he remembered. He had tried to get away from the group.  He was part of a group called the “cold gun”, a group of thieves. Then there was two gun shots.  And he fell off his horse.  Guilt swelled up in his chest.  He didn’t like being a thief.  He shut his eyes and commanded himself to forget.  Then he heard footsteps.  There was the girl he had seen before he had passed out.  She held a wet cloth.
“How are you feeling?” she asked.
“Tired.  Where am I and how did you find me?”
“I’m Eliza Johansson. You’re at Moon ranch just outside of Virginia City.  I found you by an old stump almost dead.”  She pressed the cloth against his forehead.  “You have two bullets in you.  I need to get them out or you really will be dead.”
Pike said, “I don’t need them out.  I don’t need help.”
“Look, I’m not going to have someone die in my house. They need to be removed!”
“NO!” Pike screamed.  He tried to get up again.  He couldn’t get up.  And the movement caused the wounds to hurt even more.  He screamed, this time with pain.
“Stop it!  Are you crazy?  Are you trying to make this harder?  I need you to tell me what you want me to do.  I know it won’t be easy but if you want to live you need to calm down.  I’m trying to help you!”
Pike couldn’t speak.  He was as white as a sheet paper and almost unconscious again.
“I’m going try to remove them alright?  My brother died because I didn’t try.  It’s not going to happen again.”  Eliza reached for his hand.  “It’s going to be alright.  Let me help you. Please. Let me help you.”
An hour later Eliza was standing over Pike.  He had passed out half way through the operation.  When will he wake up?  Did I do something wrong? Did I-…
Endless questions ran through Eliza’s head. She looked over the bed.  It’s all covered in blood.  What would my mother say is she found out?  But I saved his life.  I don’t think she would have been angry.  She always said, “Loveth thy neighbor more so than thyself.”  She turned away from Pike.  I don’t even know this man’s name.  Lord?  Am I being foolish?  Taking care of someone I’ve never seen before?  Just then she heard a moan.  Relief flooded through her.  Thank you Lord!
