Aaliyah Rivers

Me: Alright y’all! Copper and I had so much fun yesterday, that we convinced Aaliyah Rivers to join us today. And I decided to let Copper lead the interview. Copper, it’s all yours!
Copper: ::trotting over and taking the mic with a huge smile and wave:: Oh my you can’t imagine how much fun it is to be here again today! And just so you know, Aaliyah’s my best friend, so be nice to her. ::nudging Aaliyah:: Come on, say hi!
Aaliyah: Hi everyone. ::half smile and a ‘I can’t believe I’m really doing this’ look on her face::
Copper: Let’s see, what do I want to ask you first? ::scanning a list of questions:: I know! How would your friends describe you?
Aaliyah: Copper, can’t you answer that? ::nervously smooths hair behind her ear::
Copper: Of course not! That’s the point of this interview, for you to tell us about yourself.
Aaliyah: Um, ok. I think they would, well, probably describe me as, um quiet. And maybe loyal. Yeah, I’m pretty loyal.
Copper: Annndddd??? ::encouraging nod::
Aaliyah: ::looking around as if trying to escape:: Maybe passionate? I know I’ve heard you call me that before.
Copper: Passionate? Great! Passionate about what?
Aaliyah: Writing of course! *sounding chipper for the first time*
Copper: Tell me about your writing.
Aaliyah: Oh my! There’s so much to say… ::tapping chin with her finger:: I’ve liked to write for as long as I can remember. Of course Uncle Jim’s a writer, so I think he’s my inspiration.
Copper: And you live with your uncle, right?
Aaliyah: Yeah, I live with Uncle Jim and Aunt Melissa and their five kids. ::waving hand impatiently as she goes back to the main subject:: Anyway, so Uncle Jim used to let me sit in his lap when I was really little and watch him go typing away on the computer, I loved it! And so yeah, I guess that’s where and when my love of writing was born.
Copper: ::winking at everyone:: So, what kind of stuff do you like to write?
Aaliyah: Oh goodness! *everyone can feel her enthusiasm* Mostly I write juvenile fiction. I’m also working on some ideas for young adult books. I had the best idea ever the other day! ::claps hands together in excitement:: I just ended up sitting down with my laptop until like one a.m., which wasn’t the best ‘cause I was hoping to go to bed early, but hey, when an idea comes, who am I to stand it it’s way! ::gestures wildly as she’s talking::
Copper: Nice!
Aaliyah: Thanks.
Copper: ::looks down at her list:: So, if you could have which ever you wanted, would you rather go on a shopping spree and get a bunch of new clothes, or would you go out to an expensive restaurant?
Aaliyah: ::suddenly looking out of place again:: Neither. Um, I um, kinda like going to bookstores though.
Copper: Aaliyah, what am I going to do with you! She doesn’t like to shop! ::dramatic sigh:: Oh well. Ok, one last question, If you could spend the day hanging out with your friends, or chilling out at home, which would you choose?
Aaliyah: ::playing nervously with her hair:: I think, um, I would probably choose to stay home. Don’t you think?
Copper: Yeah! ::shakes her head with a smile::
Aaliyah: Are we done now, can I go?
Copper: Yes, we’re done. You can go escape if you want.
Aaliyah: Bye! ::hasty wave as she walks rapidly out of the room::

So, what do you all think of Copper and Aaliyah? I’d greatly enjoy hearing your comments!

I like how nervous you made her with the little gestures, like smoothing her hair behind her ears, and how she warmed up when she talked about writing. Great bit of characterization. 😀

Thanks =) Aaliyah and Copper are actually two of my favorite characters that I’ve written about. They are so different, yet are best friends. I can’t wait to show you all more about them.
