Interview – Will Cloud

Hey, y’all! I have another one of my writing-group-writers here for an interview. Thanks, Will, for stopping by!

First off, can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
My name is Will Cloud, and I live in Cumberland, Virginia. Very out of the way, but beautiful country, let me tell you. I’m a homeschooled eleventh grader, and am involved in theater and soccer. I love Legos, Marvel, and Doctor Who!
What is the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?
I’ve jumped off some pretty high dives, and climbed 30 foot tall rocks on mountain peaks, but I would have to answer that with wearing on Oompa-loompa jumpsuit…I’m 6’2″, so you can see how that worked. It was very fun though!
Describe yourself in one sentence.
Can I do one of those sentences that lasts for four pages? No, I’m good crazy, with a little snark, a little wit, and a little seriousness all in one.
How long have you been writing?
Only since January, actually. I have written, or tried to write, in years past, but this year is the first time I’ve been able to finish even a short story.
What age group/ what genre do you write for?
I write mostly for teens, but not teen fiction. I usually write horror, thriller, and fantasy.
If you could give us one piece of writing advice, what would it be?
Write, write, write…You get better the more you do it, and your ideas get better and better. Things that I thought of years ago are finally becoming solid enough ideas to be written down. Writers aren’t born with the ability to create NYT bestsellers, they get there through a lot of work.
Would you rather go on a backpacking trip or stay at a resort for a week?
I love resorts, but the adventure of a camping/hiking trip would be really fun. And depending on where, I might get to hunt for sasquatch!
If you could only choose to books to read for the rest of you life, which two would they be?
Well, excluding the Bible, I would have to say Les Miserables and Lord of the Rings. They are two of my favorites, and once I finished one, I could start it again and not remember any of it! They are very long books! But, they are some of the best pieces of literature out there.

If you could jump into any book world, which would it be?
Hard question! I would have to say either Middle Earth, or Narnia. But then there is Panem, which would be very interesting. Competing in the Hunger Games would be a challenge.
Who’s your favorite author?
Definitely C. S. Lewis! He was an incredible writer, and had such understanding of Christianity. I wouldn’t agree with him always, but I love his writing.

What is your favorite book?
Definitely Les Miserables, with a close second being the Lion, Witch, and the Wardrobe, and about a dozen others.
When was your favorite age?
Well, I am quite partial to the First Age, the age of Morgoth, and the Silmarillions…Oh, wait, sorry. 15 for me. It was when I started theater, was first string keeper (only keeper) for my team, and really opened up to new things.
Outgoing or shy? Yes. It depends on the situation.
Coffee or tea? Can’t I have both? No, tea, definitely.
City or Country? Country boy all the way, right here.
Piano or guitar? I play piano, so no competition there.
Fancy or casual? Depends on the situation, but I prefer comfy over formal, so, casual.

Thanks, Will, for stopping by! 🙂

It seems that Will and I have a bit in common, especially when it comes to authors and books. I love Lewis and Tolkien. And he's a musician, which always intrigues me.
