Editing =)

This week, in addition to having a great time in Indonesia, I’ve also finally gotten around to the edits for my Action Kid’s book. The changes my editor pointed out for me to work on were things like: Making the dialog more distinct, describing the setting better and clarifying a few things. (And yes, that is tons of work!)

I’m also working on adding some elements that I’ve been reading about in a writing book I just finished.  I really, really enjoyed reading the book, which was written by the founders of Go Teen Writers. Sadly, I’m not adding any links because the internet is being incredibly slow today. Which is also the reason for no pictures. I’m planning on re-reading the book in the very near future.

Editing is not my strong point, but I’m really working on learning and growing in that area. I’d much rather someone just make all the changes for me, but of course that isn’t the way to learn. 🙂 I’m so very happy for my editor and all he’s taught me. He’s amazing to work with.

What are y’all up to?

    I can imagine the editing process would be daunting. The last time I wrote something that was edited was in my high school creative writing class. I remember getting the last thing I wrote back from teacher looking like someone had bled all over it because of all the red ink. Whole sections marked out with “Do we really need this?” and parenthesis around a section with “Expand on this.” I bet it can be even more frustrating when it's your career. Can't wait to see the final product. I hope you're still having fun in Indonesia. Have a great weekend.

    Thankfully with my editor, he doesn't use the color red. That makes editing a lot nicer, because instead of feeling like I've done everything wrong, the blue color makes it feel more like a friendly suggestion. And yes, daunting is a good word. There comes a time when I'm almost done though, that I suddenly feel like running and shouting for joy, because I can see a real book coming through the pages. 🙂
