When Life Hands You Lymes #1 // Guest Post

Hey guys, guess what? I had the great privilege of guest posing over HERE today. Thank you, Elizabeth, for inviting me! Y’all should totally check it out. And, of course if you wanted to leave a comment, that would be amazing. 😉

And now, for the long awaited (by me at least), first installment of my continuing story, When Life Hands You Lymes. First off, a little bit about the story: Even though the main character, Madalyn, and I will have experienced some of the same things in life, I don’t want y’all to get confused and think that she and I are the same person. We’re not.

And, since I’m writing the story day by day and posting once a week, there will be some inconsistencies and issues with the plot line. We’ll just have to work through that, peoples, ok? 🙂 Thanks for joining me on this journey, I’m really excited about it! Please, leave a comment (if you feel so inclined) and let me know what you think. Also, the plot (plot, what plot?) isn’t set in stone, so if you have any suggestions, ideas, or flashes of inspiration, go ahead and leave those in the comments as well. This can be a fun, joint effort, y’all! 😉

When Life Hands You Lymes #1

I’ll never forget the first time I held ten thousand dollars in my hands. It wasn’t because of the money, no that meant little to me as a three-year-old. It was the way my parents laughed, taking pictures and hugging each other. I loved the excitement. Excitement, family and friends are three of the key words in my life. Not that I’m into crazy adventures like sky diving, but give me a group of thirty kids and a beach-ball any day and I’m set to entertain. Mom says I’d be a great teacher, but that is so not going to happen. Music is my life, not teaching.

“But you’re so good with people,” Mom will protest. And it’s true, laughter, joy and general mayhem have surrounded me most of my life. Mom says since before I could talk the motto, ‘The More, the Merrier’ seemed to be my theme. That doesn’t mean I’m cut out to be a teacher though. Uh, no thank you.

Some of my best memories center around the Christmas season two years ago, back when I was fourteen. We had company for two months straight, I kid you not. Actually it was 63 days, which, of course, is longer than two months. I was at the heights of my glory. Dad says I was born with an itch to meet and get to know everyone in the world. Seven billion people seems  like a bit of a tall order, but I’m guessing I’ll come about as close to it as anyone else could. People, people, people. I love people
When I go shopping, I don’t go to actually buy stuff, most of the time it’s so I can get into interesting conversations with the shop clerks or maybe bump into some of my friends. Katie, my older sister who’s had to develop the trait of being good with people because she’s not naturally outgoing, sometimes just stands back and watches me. She seems to think it’s a marvel that I actually love people as much as I do. Jason, my oldest bro who’s away at college, often texts me questions like “What do I say to such-in-such a person?” and that kind of stuff. It’s almost like I’m the advice column for our family. Which totally rocks. My other sibling, Derrick, who’s in-between Katie and me likes to give me challenges, such as “Go see how long it takes you to make that sourpuss smile.” And, while I don’t like him calling grumpy people things like sourpuss, I do like making them smile, so I always take him up on the challenge. Results vary, but it’s usually no more than a minute before I have them into a full-blown laugh.

I used to dream and scheme about something I could be good at. Jason’s an expert with technology and has arguably done more than anyone else in our family, other than Dad, with helping get our family business, Emerson Airlines off the ground. (I know, I know. I can’t resist a good pun!) Katie has administration skills that are crazy good. Even though she’s only 20 (each of us kids are two years apart), she’s already heading up one of our departments. And Derrick, he’s got everything going for him. He’s smart, athletic, and is working on going into the accounting department for Emerson Airlines. So, what does that leave little ol’ me with? A little talent for the piano and guitar and a lot of love for people. Totally not impressive, but hey, it works.

Nice set up, Aidyl. Madalyn is certainly a energetic character. However, she needs to realize that a talent for piano and guitar is TOTALLY impressive. 🙂 Then, I may be a little biased on that. I look forward to the rest of the story. Have a rockin' Friday!!

So yeah, I am glad to know it's not *you* because I would be scared that you would take off and begin your quest of meeting the billions of the world, do you have any idea how long it would take to shake 6 billion hands? And not to mention trying to remember all their middle names (even with a memory like yours…), yeah, glad it's not really you. But I am seeing a trend between Madalyn and Katie and you and me, did you do a personality blend?

Personality blend? Well, I think what I did was take (some of) your good traits and split them between the two characters. 😉 And yes, shaking that many hands would leave no time for writing. :-/
