Interview – Victoria Grace Howell

I’m excited to have Victoria here today. She’s a fellow writer that I meet on Go Teen Writers, which is a writing group that I really, really have learned so much from! So here we go…

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Hey, I’m Victoria Grace Howell. 🙂 I’m a Christian. I’ve been writing seriously for four years and I’ve attended four writers conferences. I write speculative fiction, particularly fantasy and science fiction. I love instrumental music, Marvel and drawing my characters. You can check out my blog and Facebook here: and
What is one of your favorite quotes?
I love this one by Anne Lammott
“For some of us, books are as important as almost anything else on earth. What a miracle it is that out of these small, flat, rigid squares of paper unfolds world after world after world, worlds that sing to you, comfort and quiet or excite you. Books help us understand who we are and how we are to behave. They show us what community and friendship mean; they show us how to live and die.”―Anne Lamott

Who is one of your favorite authors?
Bryan Davis probably. He invited me to my first writers conference which cemented my desire to be an author as a career.

About writing….

What inspired you to write?
Well I’ve been writing or thinking up stories since I could dictate to my parents so they could write them down. Now that I can write myself it’s much easier and the stories got much more complicated than the life of Polar Bears. My mom also used to read me stories every night: Lord of the Rings and the Boxcar children. The good stuff. 😉 But what inspired me to actually write a full length novel was a classic PC game called King’s Quest that was made in the 80’s. I played it when was eleven and I’ve been writing books ever since.

What is your goal with writing?
I want to write stories that impact people. There are a lot of issues out there that I weave into my books especially about common societal beliefs like believing or doing something because everyone else says it’s okay. Being a Christian, I think we should cross-reference what we believe with Bible before accepting it.

On a scale of 1-10, how serious are you about writing? (1= Writing is fun. 10 = I would die if I couldn’t spend several hours a day on my writing.)
10 definitely. Maybe 8 or 9 sometimes when I’m taking a break between books or rewrites, but I’m very focused on writing every day.

When you’re writing do you…

Listen to music? If so, what?
I listen to music especially instrumental from movies and such. I don’t really like too much modern music. I’m very selective, but some of my favorite artists are Imagine Dragons, Owl City and Of Monsters and Men.

Sit in the same place (most of the time)? Where?
If I’m a home I sit at my trusty desk with my betta, Epsilon, at my side–in his tank of course.

If you could….

Go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
That’s a tough question. I want to do some travelling definitely. I’ve already been to France, but next stop would be the UK. I need to go to the homeland of Doctor Who, Lord of the Rings and Narnia lol. Maybe I can absorb some brilliance.

Be anything you wanted (career-wise) what would it be?
Writer totally. 🙂

Would you rather…

Live in the city or the country?
I live in a suburban area, but I grew up in the country. I love the nature and animals. 🙂 I don’t like cities too much. Too crowded.

Have a cat or a dog?
I love cats. I have a white cat. She uses my hand as a pillow when I write.

Drink hot tea or iced tea?
I like both. I drink hot tea when I’m writing sometimes. 🙂 Especially Plantation Mint. Mmm …

Do you consider yourself…

A driven or more easy-going person?
I’m pretty driven. I have to make myself be more easy going sometimes. 😛

An outgoing or more shy person?
It actually depends. Around my best friends and my writer friends I’m more outgoing and around everyone else I get quiet lol.

An inside or outside person?
Half and half. I love taking walks outdoors but I usually write inside. 🙂

Thanks for interviewing me Aidyl! 🙂 It as fun.
Thank you, Victoria, it was fun!
