U is for Unique

{My A to Z Challenge for 2013 has the cool theme of being chronically ill. It’s going to be fun, so stick around!}

U is for Unique

I’m a unique person. I’m not a stereotypical Christian, I’m not your average twenty-year-old, I’m not what people probably expect me to be. And that’s good, because I have this idea in the back of my mind that life would be boring if I was like everyone else – and life would assuredly be way too crazy if everyone were like me. I’m happy with who I am (and more importantly, who I’m becoming).
Lyme disease is also unique. It’s unique for everyone. Meaning, each person who has it experiences different symptoms and issues at varying degrees. While some people have lots of pain in their knees, I hardly ever experience that (remember, that’s one of those Goodness! I’m going to freak out! pains for me?). Meanwhile, I haven’t met any one else who gets upset stomachs as much as I do.
I’m prone to get stressed out at everything when I don’t feel well. Like, where I have to stay in my room or go out and swing so I don’t go crazy. (Case in point, even though we are in Hawaii I spent quite a few hours laying in my room today, listening to the Bible and doing things on my phone.) While I don’t think it’s unique to get stressed out, not every one deals with it the same way as me.
While I personally like being unique, there are times that I wish Lyme disease wasn’t so much so, because it’s really a lot harder for me to figure out.

    It's good you get some time to yourself when you're stressed! For me, going outside usually calms me down, or reading.
