I Finished! Grins!

Can y’all believe that it’s almost October! Seriously, where is time going? I mean, it seems like I was just getting excited about September, and now it’s time to get pumped up about October. That’s not hard of course, seeing how October is like one of the coolest months ever… =D

So a little over a week ago, I decided to try and write a kids book that would end up having around 10,000 words. I was kinda nervous about it, because it was something that I hadn’t tried before (the particular style) and I didn’t know how it would turn out. Plus, I wanted to hurry up and get it finished so I could order a sample copy to give to my ‘adopted’ parents so they could tell me what they thought when I see them this coming week.

{Pictures in this post taken by my ‘adopted’ mom}

Well, with everything else I had going on (mainly stuff for my friend’s wedding), it got pushed back on the priority list. I worked on it for a day or two and then hit a bump, got stuck and put it away for the next four or five days.

Then yesterday, I had gotten caught up with the wedding pep, and so I was like “Great! I can work on my book again!” Only one slight problem, I was stuck. Like good and stuck. I knew I had to find another element for the book, or it wasn’t going to be worth anything.

Well, I was up in the barn, milking, turning my book over, and over and over in my mind… When the solution came to me! Isn’t it so much fun when you suddenly figure out how to fix a problem your book has? Anyway, so I had a few things to iron out of the ‘solution’ but that came pretty quickly.

So, I went and swung for a few minutes (believe me, there’s nothing like swinging *yes, on a swing set* to get ideas coming), then I headed to my room/office where I wrote. And wrote. And wrote.

Ok, it was only almost 7,000 words, which I know isn’t a ton, but for me at least, there’s a huge difference between writing 7,000 words on a book, and writing that many words on a kids story that’s only going to have under 10,000 words at completion. (It took me a little over five hours, by the way.)

Yeah, that’s what I’m here to say. I finished the ‘book’ yesterday, so I’m happy. And now I better scamper off, because I have got a *huge* day!

Oh yes, but before I go, I’d thought I’d remind you all of my facebook page. Remember, you don’t have to be ‘on’ facebook to see a public page. (And mine is public.) So yeah, just thought I’d point that out.

One more thing, then I am going: This is a great blog. You should really check it out!

    I've never attempted a children's book of that variety. Cognrats for getting it done. I LOVED reading all your methods of getting the ideas flowing again:)

    There's nothing quite like getting a good number of words written on a project. Way to go for finishing the book!

    Oh, and I hopped over and liked your Facebook page. 🙂
